The First Oak x Winterspring Salon

The first Oak x Winterspring Salon Series was held on the 28th of November at the Winterspring Dessert Bar on Copenhagen’s Store Strandstræde. The intimate gathering is a monthly event that joins Winterspring’s culinary celebration of the Nordics with Oak’s charting of the region’s conversations.

Between Winterspring’s elegant savoury and sweet courses, a lively discussion was held between Marie Nipper, director of the Copenhagen Contemporary art centre, and Gracie Roy Hess, gallerist at Galleri Nicolai Wallner. The two spoke about the emergence of Copenhagen as a contemporary art destination over the last fifteen years, what is unique about the Danish art audience and how the city creates a culture of collaboration rather than competition.

The salon also marked the launch of the Curated Copenhagen booklet; with many of the women at the salon featured in its pages.

Inside the booklet is an unfolding of Copenhagen’s emblems, from the Little Mermaid to the city’s old and innovative bridges. Some may be known by outsiders, others are local icons. There are interviews with the city’s female pioneers, as well as profiles of our favourite spaces in Copenhagen through the eyes of the women who envisioned them.

Many thanks to Winterspring for being our generous collaborators and to Marie Nipper and Gracie Roy Hess for giving guests an insight into their contemporary art world.
