A Salon on Ethics and Aesthetics

Should social responsibility set the parameters on design, or should creativity flow and then be adapted to meet an ethical guide? This emerged as the fissure between AIAYU and Mater’s company strategies in a conversation between the brand’s founders at the Oak x Winterspring CONSCIOUS CREATIVITY salon on May 15th.

Maria Høgh Heilmann and Henrik Marstrand spoke frankly about their techniques of consumer transparency and the balancing act between commercial salience and conscious design. Established in 2005 and 2006 respectively, both companies have been prioritizing and mitigating the environmental and human impact of their products since the beginning and have observed their peers slowly rise to meet their precedent.
