A unique new exhibition at Dutch Design Week is showcasing the work of a selection of innovative designers from Skåne, revealing the talent contained within this emerging design hub to the world.
Design is a global industry. With fairs and events now taking place each year in almost every capital city in the world and with huge companies constantly trying to convince us to buy more, it’s easy to feel that in its race to the international marketplace, design has lost its connection to place.
But projects like Southern Sweden Creatives are proving otherwise. They’re demonstrating that design has a soft power economically, but also – perhaps more importantly – when it comes to creating community and identity. With its ventures in Milan, London, and this month’s Dutch Design Week, SSC has shown that Swedish design is adaptable and innovative, and that its creators share a common outlook that makes their work unique. It is not just proving this to the world, but to the designers themselves. By bringing together a group of designers working in different fields – fashion, jewellery, glassware and more – SSC has identified a new and innovative creative centre in Skåne.
Now, Southern Sweden’s next generation of design talent has been brought together for a unique exhibition at Dutch Design Week, called What’s Your DNA?. In this video, the designers share the stories and inspirations behind their work, revealing the common threads running through this young, local design scene.
Wha’s Your DNA? is taking place during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven at Klokgebouw 50 from 21st to 29th October. For opening hours and directions visit the website here.
