There is more than just the hands of clock that tell us time is passing; it is also evident in the seasons and in the gentle aging of our clothes and furniture. Rather than trying to hide signs of aging, designers Hung-Ming Chen and Chen-Yen Wei founded their Stockholm-based studio Afteroom to embrace the traces of time and make them a central tenet in their design philosophy, and efforts to communicate this mix of honesty and sincerity are evident in every project of the Afteroom portfolio.
Taking inspiration from Bauhaus and Scandinavian modernism, and from iconic Nordic designers like Arne Jacobsen, Alvar Aalto, Hans Wegner, Greta Grossman, and Ilmari Tapiovaara, Afteroom designs simple and honest objects that you can grow old with. The studio was immediately appealing to both the trend-watchers and the purists of the design world, and their work has been on the pages of all of the popular design and lifestyle magazines for the past few years, both in Scandinavia and beyond.
